Argonne Hills

Argonne Hills is centrally located in Chapel Hill.  It is an older, established neighborhood with wooded lots.  The houses generally were built in the 1970s and are 1500 – 2000 square feet.  A number of the homes have been updated.  The lots range in size from .25 to .50 acre.

Barrington Hills

Barrington Hills is located west of Chapel Hill and just outside Carrboro.  It is very close to McDougle elementary and middle schools.  This is an older established neighborhood.  The houses generally were built in the 1970s.

Berryhill

Berryhill is a subdivision located south of Chapel Hill and is close to Frank Porter Graham elementary school.  There are two sections to this neighborhood.  The original section has houses that were built in the 1980s and are generally transitional in style on .3 acre lots.  The newer section, which was built by a range of local custom builders, was built in the 1990s and early 2000s.  These houses also are transitional in style and are on lots ranging from .25 to .7 of an acre.  There are sidewalks and a private soccer field in Berryhill.

Booker Creek

Booker Creek is centrally located in Chapel Hill with easy access to Durham and I40.  This is an older, established neighborhood connected to Lake Forest.  This is a lovely neighborhood for walking.  The homes typically were built in the 1970s and many have had updates and additions.  There is a range of house styles throughout the neighborhood, traditional, cape code, split levels, contemporary and transitional.  Many houses in Booker Creek have been updated and added on to.

Briarcliff

This neighborhood is centrally located in Chapel Hill.  It is in the walk zone to Ephesus Elementary and is very close to University Mall.  The neighborhood is connected to Colony Woods and Ridgefield.  It is a large neighborhood with loads of diversity of house sizes, types and styles.  A number of houses have had substantial updates and additions.  The lots are nicely wooded.  This is a great neighborhood for walking. There also is a community pool (Ridgewood) located in this neighborhood.

Camden Place

Camden Place is located northwest of Chapel Hill off Homestead Road.  These are large homes built in the 1990s by Lawton Wheeler and primarily are transitional in style.  These homes are in the executive category and have lovely details.  The neighborhood has approximately 30 homes.

Cedar Hills

Chandler’s Green is located northeast of Chapel Hill and is next to East Chapel Hill High School.  The houses were built in the late 1980s and 90s by local custom builders and are executive homes.  This is a lovely neighborhood with .5 to 1 acre lots.

Cobble Ridge

Cobble Ridge is located south of Chapel Hill.  This is a mid-priced neighborhood with transitional and traditional homes on .20 to .30 acre lots.  This neighborhood is very close to Culbreth Middle School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Cobblestone

Cobblestone is located west of Chapel Hill just outside Carrboro.  The houses were built in the 1980s, are primarily traditional and somewhat transitional, and are situated on nice .3 to .7 acre lots.  The neighborhood is close to McDougal elementary and middle schools.  Some houses in this neighborhood have visible power lines which bothers some.

Coker Hills

Coker Hills is centrally located in Chapel Hill and is next to Lake Forest.  Some parts of this neighborhood are within walking distance to Estes Elementary and Phillips Middle Schools.  This is a lovely wooded neighborhood with a range of house sizes, types and styles located on .3 to 1.25 acre lots.

Colony Woods

Colony Woods is an older, established neighborhood that is in between Briarcliff and Ridgefield.  This neighborhood is centrally located in Chapel Hill.  It is very close to Ephesus Elementary and University Mall. The homes were built in the 1960s.  There are a number of split-levels, split foyers and traditional homes.  It is a very nice wooded neighborhood with nice lots.  Many houses have been updated and added onto.  This is a large neighborhood that is great for walking.  There is a community pool (Ridgewood) in this neighborhood.

Colony Lake

Colony Lake is located east of Chapel Hill.  This neighborhood has single-family homes and townhouses.  These are smaller, affordable homes located on small lots.  There is a nice, non-recreational, lake in this neighborhood.  Some houses and townhouses line the lake.

Creek Wood

Creekwood is on the north side of town off of Whitfield Road. It is an executive home neighborhood on large lot.  Most of the neighborhood is in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro School District and some of the neighborhood is in Orange County. The homes in this neighborhood were all built by local custom builders.

Dogwood Acres

Dogwood Acres is located south of Chapel Hill.  These homes range in size from 1200 to 2000 square feet and were built in the 1950s and 1960s.  The neighborhood has nice lot sizes.

Englewood

Englewood is located east of Chapel Hill just off Erwin Road. This neighborhood is convienently located between Chapel Hill and Durham and has great access to both areas as well as I-40. This is a subdivision of about 50 homes built by John Weiland in the late 1990s. The homes are primarily transitional and have all the modern upgrades.

Estes Hills

Estes Hills is an older, established neighborhood centrally located in Chapel Hill and within walking distance to Estes Elementary and Phillips Middle School.  These homes primarily were built in the 1950s and 1960s and many have been updated and had additions put on them.

Fair Oaks

Fairoaks is located west of Chapel Hill outside of Carrboro and close to McDougle Elementary and Middle School. This neighborhood was built in the 1980s and has a nice variety of homes, one level, two story, transitional homes and some more traditional styles. Even though the neighborhood primarily has .25 acre lots, there are a number of houses with good back yards. This is also a nice neighborhood for walking.

Greenwood

Greenwood is a lovely, older established neighborhood located at the base of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This neighborhood also backs to hiking and biking trails.  The houses in this neighborhood are mid-size to large. There are a few smaller houses as well. The houses sit on nice size lots. There are the full spectrum of house styles and types as well.

Heritage Hills

Heritage Hills is located south of Chapel Hill. This is an established neighborhood with homes primarily built in the 1960s and 1970s. There are a number brick ranches, split level homes and other styles as well. The homes have nice lots and some have been updated. Heritage Hills Swim Club, which has a swim team, is located inside this neighborhood. Membership is not required to live in the neighborhood.

Homestead Village

Homestead Village is located west of Chapel Hill off Homestead Road.  This is a nice, but small, subdivision of homes primarily in the 2000 square foot range.  There are one and two story homes in this neighborhood that primarily are transitional in style.

Hundred Oaks

Hundred Oaks is an executive home neighborhood located south of Chapel Hill. There are approximately 50 homes built by different local, custom builders. The homes primarily are transitional in style. This neighborhood has a nice park in the middle and attractive gas lights that create a very nice effect at night.

Hunters Ridge

Hunters Ridge is located south of town and backs to the North Carolina Botanical Gardens. This is an older, established neighborhood with nice size lots. The houses are transitional and contemporary in style.

Hunt’s Reserve

Hunts Reserve is one of Chapel Hill’s nicest, executive neighborhoods.  It is located south of town and next to The Reserve.  These homes were built by local, custom builders.  The neighborhood is hilly and quite majestic.  It is a good neighborhood for walking if you don’t mind a work out from the hills.  The homes are beautiful and primarily transitional in style.

Kent Woodlands

Kent Woodlands is located south of Chapel Hill. These homes were built in the 1990s and 2000s by the local, custom builder Caroline Zinn. These houses are transitional in style with all the modern amenities. There are a good number of houses in this neighborhood with basements.

Larkspur

Larkspur is located on the north side of Chapel Hill and one of the few places where new homes are being built in the Chapel Hill school system.  These are custom homes built by Caroline Zinn. The houses are transitional in style. These homes are being built with fine details such has hardwood floors, solid surface countertops, top of the line applicances, screened porches and more. Larkspur will have 86 homes in total. The craftsman style clubhouse, playground and a swimming pool has already been completed. The clubhouse also has a nice patio with gas grilles, tables and chairs and an adjacent ballfield. The neighborhood has walkways that lead to Chapel Hill’s rails/trails system. Larkspur is located north of Chapel Hill and is two minutes to I-40 (but not too close to be a noise problem) and shopping, movie theaters and restaurants at Chapel Hill North and Timberlyn Shopping Center. Down the road is Homestead Park with a wonderful playground, ballfields for baseball and soccer, basketball and skateboard facilities.

North Forest Hills

This neighborhood was built in the 1960s and 70s. It is a nice neighborhood with wooded lots and nice yards. There are a range of house sizes, types and styles. This is a neighborhood that is great for walking and there is a community park.

North Haven

North Haven is a subdivision of 50 homes located off Seawell School Road. These homes were built in the 1990s by a local custom builder, Pully Adair. These homes are transitional in style and sit on about .3 to .4 acre lots. Unlike a number of hilly neighborhoods in Chapel Hill, North Haven is relatively flat. This neighborhood backs to the Horace Williams Tract (recently renamed Chapel Hill North). There is a fantastic walking trail through Chapel Hill North. Chapel Hill North, approximately 1000 acres, is owned by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  UNC has plans to develop approximately 300 acres over a 50-year period with office space, research space and residential housing. Currently, this property houses the UNC Airport which is scheduled to be moved prior to the development of Chapel Hill North.

Northwoods

Northwoods is located north of Chapel Hill close to I 40. This neighborhood has homes built in the 1960s. They are contemporary style homes on wooded acre lots. Northwoods is also close to shops, movies, banks and restaurants at Chapel Hill North and Timberlyn Shopping Center.

Northwoods V

Northwoods V is located north of Chapel Hill close to I-40. These homes were built by a national builder, Centex Homes. These homes are transitional in style. Most of them have brick fronts, very nice interior and exterior finish work and are located on .25 acre lots. Northwoods V is close to shops, movies, banks and restaurants at Chapel Hill North and Timberlyn Shopping Center and Chapel Hill’s newest community park, “Homestead Park,” with wonderful soccer and baseball fields, a large playground, and picnic areas.

Oxbow Crossing

Oxbow Crossing is located west of Chapel Hill off Dairyland Road. These are custom homes built by John Hartley, Mt. Vernon Homes, and other local custom builders. These homes are situated on 2 to 5 acre lots.  John Hartley’s homes are contemporary in style. The other homes are transitional in design. This neighborhood is just down the street from Maple View Farms, a local dairy, and their famous ice cream store.

Parkside

Parkside is a subdivision built by the national builder M/I homes. Most of the homes in this neighborhood are in the 2300 to 3000 square foot range. These homes are primarily transitional in style on .25 acre lots. Many homes in this neighborhood have first floor bedrooms and full bathrooms or first floor master bedrooms. The last phase in this neighborhood has smaller homes, some of which were built with unfinished second floors for future expansion. This neighborhood is walking distance to Chapel Hill’s newest community park, “Homestead Park,” with wonderful soccer and baseball fields, a large playground, and picnic areas. It is also close to shops, movies, banks and restaurants at Chapel Hill North and Timberlyn Shopping Center.

Plantation Acres

Plantation Acres is located just outside Carrboro. It is a nice, established neighborhood with houses built in the 1960s and 70s on .3 to 1-acre lots. There are a range of house styles, types and sizes, a number of which have had updates and additions.

Quarterpath Trace

This is a subdivision located just outside Carrboro that was built in the 1990s. They are mid-size transitional and traditional homes on .25 acre lots. This neighborhood is walkable to downtown Carrboro.

Roberson Place

Roberson Place is located within walking distance to the town of Carrboro. This neighborhood has both townhouses and single-family homes on small, manageable lots. This neighborhood has a flavor of San Francisco. The houses are quite colorful on the exterior and nicely appointed on the interior.

Robins Woods

Robins Woods is located west of Carrboro/Chapel Hill. It is a neighborhood with homes built in the 1970s.  hey are contemporary in style and are located on nice, wooded acre lots.

Sedgefield

Sedgefield is located north of Chapel Hill in a lovely, wooded area of town. This neighborhood has very easy access to downtown Chapel Hill, Durham (and Duke University) and I-40. The homes in this neighborhood were built in the 1980s and 90s and range in style, type and size and are situated on acre to two acre lots. The Stoneridge Swim Club is located across the street in the Stoneridge neighborhood.

Southbridge

Southbridge is located south of town and is very close to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  The homes in this neighborhood were built in the 1980s and 1990s and are primarily transitional in design.

Spring Valley

Spring Valley is located just outside Carrboro and is tucked away behind Bolin Forest and Webbwood. This is a neat neighborhood with loads of character. The homes are on the small side as are the lots but the neighborhood is so great that you don’t see a tremendous amount of turnover. The houses are contemporary to transitional in style. There is also a nice, large pond that some houses are on. The neighborhood backs to Bolin Creek and 10 miles of hiking and biking trails.

Springcrest

Springcrest is located on the east side of town just off Erwin Road. This neighborhood has easy access to Durham (and Duke University) as well as I-40. These homes were built by Caroline Zinn in the 1990s. These houses are primarily transitional in style and are situated on approximately .2 to .4 acre lots.

Stoneridge

Stoneridge is located north of Chapel Hill in a lovely, wooded area of town. This neighborhood has very easy access to downtown Chapel Hill, Durham (and Duke University) and I-40.  The homes in this neighborhood were built in the 1970s and 80s and range in style, type and size and are situated on acre to two acre lots. There are many beautiful homes in this neighborhood and many have had lovely updates and additions. The Stoneridge swim and tennis club is located here. This club has a swim team which forms a total team with the Chapel Hill Tennis and Swim Club swim team.  It is not a requirement to be a member of the club to live in this neighborhood.

Sunset Creek

Sunset Creek is a subdivision of custom homes located west of Chapel Hill and Carrboro. There are approximately 60 homes and a nice pool and club house.  The homes are primarily transitional in style and are situated on 1/3 are lots.

The Highlands

The Highlands is located west of Chapel Hill off Homestead Road. This is one of those unique Chapel Hill neighborhoods that is actually flat. The homes were built in the late 1980s and early 1990s and are transitional and traditional in style. One of the best things about this neighborhood is the lot sizes. They are ½ acre and typically nice and flat.

The Reserve

The Reserve is an executive home neighborhood located next to Hunts Reserve. This neighborhood backs to the North Carolina Botanical Center and is very majestic. It is hilly and the views are lovely.  The homes are all custom and range in size, type and style. The overarching style, however, is transitional. These homes, like those in Hunts Reserve, come with all the trimmings that you would expect. The homes also are situated on nice lots ranging from 2 to 5 acres.

Timberlyne

Timberlyne is located on the north side of town.  It is close to East Chapel Hill High School and a close commuting distance to I 40.  This neighborhood has medium size homes on nice wooded lots.

Timberlyn Estates

Timberlyn Estates is located inside of the Timberlyn neighborhood on the north side of Chapel Hill.  These are custom homes that were built in the 2000s by Caroline Zinn.

Tupelo Ridge

Tupelo Ridge is located northwest of town on the edge of Chapel Hill.  These are custom homes on 2-5 acre lots.

Weatherhill Pointe & Tennis Club Estates

Weatherhill Pointe and Tennis Club Estates are located west of town  This neighborhood is located close to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. These are nice houses on small lots.   This is a great neighborhood for the person who wants a single family home, rather than a townhouse or condo, but does not want to have to take care of much yard. The Chapel Hill Tennis and Swim Club is located in this neighborhood. It is not a requirement to be a member of the club to live in the neighborhood.

Webbwood

Webbwood is located just outside of Carrboro.  The houses in this neighborhood were built in the 1970s and 80s and are situated on 1/3 to ½ acre lots. This neighborhood is walkable to downtown Carrboro.

Westwood

Westwood is an older neighborhood located within walking distance to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, particularly the medical complex, the School of Public Health and the School of Social Work. This neighborhood has many older homes, Victorian in style, as well as bungalows, traditionals and cape cods.  Many of these homes have had lovely updates and additions.

Wexford

Wexford is a neighborhood of lovely custom homes on .5 acre lots. These homes were built by a number of different custom builders. There are new homes still being built that are at the top of the price range for this neighborhood.  This is also one of those unique Chapel Hill neighborhoods that is flat with nice flat yards. There is a pool, clubhouse and tennis courts in this neighborhood the cost of which is included in the homeowners dues.

Cates Farm

Cates Farm is located outside of Carrboro within walking distance to McDougle Elementary and McDougle Middle School. The homes in this subdivision were built by St. Lawrence homes and primarily are transitional in style on 1/3 acre lots.

Windsor Park

Windsor Park is located north of Chapel Hill off Airport Road. These houses were built by a national builder, Centex Homes. These are transitional homes located on .25 acre lots.
